The manager of Toronto FC, Greg Vanney, is not too sure about one of his young strikers Gilberto at the moment.
The 25-year old who played 28 matches during his debut season at BMO Field has been practicing with a top club in Brazil for a few weeks and it’s believed he is in talks with that club over some sort of deal.
Gilberto is rated by a lot of clubs in Major League Soccer as well and Montreal Impact has also been reported to have approached Toronto to make an inquiry about the player.
But, there is no clarity over the situation.
Speaking to the reporters, Vanney said, “I don’t have too much to say on this as of now. The only thing I can tell you is that he is keeping himself fit and looking forward to what future has in store. He is a great lad and I am sure we would get him slotted somewhere.”
“I need to talk to a few people before making any statement. There have been inquiries for him yes, but, none of the talks are close to reaching conclusion. Let’s see how it all pans out.”
When asked why Gilberto has not joined the club yet for the new season and what the club’s take on that, the Reds boss said, “It’s not the ideal scenario of course. But, Gilberto probably wants to explore his options. We have been speaking regularly to the people who represent him and hopefully, we would be able to work out something soon.”
Toronto might not want to sell Gilberto this summer and prefer for a season long loan deal instead.
Sources close to Gilberto say that he is keen to stay in his country Brazil only.
