The former Valencia manager Unai Emery has said that there is no way that his new club Spartak Moscow will be able to afford the signing of Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo. There have been reports in recent weeks that Spartak Moscow are interested in bringing Felipe Melo to the club. However, the new manager has published the report by saying that the club will not be able to afford the signing due to the wage demands of the player. It was initially thought that the Juventus midfielder could be interested in moving to Turkish club Galatasaray after he spent a season on loan at the Turkish club.
However, Juventus recently revealed that the two clubs were unable to agree a transfer fee, which has thrown his future to doubt. The former Valencia manager Unai Emery knows Felipe Melo better than anyone else after having worked with him closely during their time at Almeria. Melo was subsequently sold to the Italian club where he has struggled in the last few seasons. Unai Emery recently took over at Spartak Moscow after leaving his position at Valencia. The club has also failed in the efforts to sign the defender Davide Astori. Emery has said that he is extremely disappointed with the outcome.
“It’s a lie. I absolutely deny the news of Spartak Moscow’s interest in Felipe Melo. We can not guarantee him a certain kind of wage. I know him well and I will say that is a good player, but if Spartak can not afford his wages, the discussion ends there. Even if this was [Lionel] Messi, I’d like him, but I know that it is not feasible. [It’s] a real shame, because he is a good defender,” said the former Valencia man, who is hoping to lead Spartak Moscow to domestic glory.
