Zenit St Petersburg has defeated Spartak Moscow by 5-0 in a match of the Russian Premier League on Saturday. The score card itself says that the match was one sided. Spartak Moscow wasn’t able to show any kind of resistance and Zenit won the match easily. This was the fourth win of Zenit in the competition. Zenit’s midfielder Roman Shirokov scored 2 goals in the match.
Maxim Kanunnikov scored the first goal for Zenit in the 16th minute. He kicked the ball with extreme precision from the boundary of the penalty area and Andrei Dykan, the goal keeper of the Spartak, didn’t have any chance. Zenit’s lead was doubled by Vladimir Bystrov in the 51st minute. Domenico Criscito gave Bystrov a very good pass and Bystrov flicked the ball powerfully into the goal post. Shirokov made the score 3-0 in the 61st minute. After being down by 3-0, the Spartak players came under a bit of pressure and they started making unnecessary mistakes. In the 65th minute, Aiden McGeady was shown red card for making a foul. This was a big blow for Spartak. The team was reduced to 10 players. The Zenit players took advantage of that and Shirokov scored his second goal of the match in the 67th minute. After that, it was almost impossible for Spartak to make a comeback in the match. The fifth goal for Zenit was scored by Viktor Faizulin.
After this defeat, Spartak has gone down to no. 5 in the league table. After the match, Shirokov, who was named as the player of the match, said that it gives a lot of confidence when you defeat your opponent by such a large margin. As per Shirokov, it was a team effort and every player of the team contributed in the victory.
