Tottenham have been linked with a move for Dutch coach Louis van Gaal for a number of months now. The former Bayern Munich manager has also hinted at a potential Premier league move during this period. Hence, it is widely believed that Tottenham have a deal in place to bring in the Dutchman to replace Tim Sherwood at the end of the season. Van Gaal also announced that he would be stepping down from his role as the Dutch national team manager after the end of the World Cup. The Dutch FA have wasted no time in announcing Guus Hiddink as the successor.
However, van Gaal appears to be keeping his options open over his next managerial job, as there are several attractive offers in the pipeline. Manchester United could have a vacancy in the summer if David Moyes is sacked and going by the current run of results, it could be a potential option. Meanwhile, Shakhtar Donetsk have also entered into the frame for van Gaal. They are prepared to spend big in order to convince the Dutchman to join them. The lucrative offer offered by the Ukrainian outfit cannot be matched either by United or Tottenham.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has been unwilling to commit to Sherwood in a public statement. A string of poor run of results since the appointment of the former Blackburn Rovers man appears to have convinced Levy that a change in management is necessary in the summer. Sherwood was brought in as the replacement for Andre Villas-Boas with the hope of finishing in the top four, but the team is yet to score more than one goal against the current top four. This also includes a run of several high-profile defeats. Tottenham have lost 4-0 to both Chelsea and Liverpool in the last few weeks.
